Hair Loss Treatment
Dr. Carley Fowler is a board-certified dermatologist who specializes in using platelet-rich plasma (PRP) to promote hair restoration. With over a decade of experience, Dr. Fowler has truly perfected PRP therapy for restoring her patients’ hairlines and confidence.
Platelet Rich Plasma for Hair Loss
PRP therapy uses injections of a concentration of a patient’s own platelets to accelerate the growth of hair. Patients will have their own blood drawn, processed via centrifuge and then activated. The activated platelets contain growth factors and proteins that stimulate hair growth; they are injected into the scalp. There is minimal discomfort. A series of three treatments once monthly is recommended with a maintenance treatment every six to twelve months thereafter.
It’s important to keep in mind that PRP can, and should, be a part of a multifaceted program to treat hair thinning and loss. Your physician may prescribe you other oral or topical medications as well.
When you see our board-certified dermatologist, Dr. Carley Fowler, she will first ask about the details of your hair loss and do a thorough examination of your scalp. If needed, bloodwork might be checked to rule out underlying conditions. In addition, in certain situations a scalp biopsy may be necessary.
Once Dr. Fowler has determined which type or types of hair loss you have, a tailored treatment plan will be made for you. This plan may include topical medications, oral medications, steroid injections, or platelet rich plasma therapy or PRP.
